Whether you need repairs, moderate accessibility improvements, or energy-saving upgrades, our programs can help improve the comfort, safety, and efficiency of your home while lowering energy costs. From preserving your home's condition to making it easier to live in, we're here to help eligible Maine homeowners create a home that meets their needs.

Home Energy Assistance Program
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps qualified homeowners and renters pay for heating costs. Benefits include help paying for fuel and emergency fuel delivery.

MaineHousing’s Weatherization Program provides grants to low-income homeowners and renters to reduce energy costs by improving home energy efficiency. MaineHousing offers this program to consumers through Community Action Program agencies, who screen people for eligibility as part of the HEAP application process.

This program provides funding to offer remediation services to single-family households and owners of rental properties in Maine to help make their homes and rental properties lead safe.

This program provides grants to eligible single-family homeowners or landlords for dwellings with four rental units or less with private well water that shows evidence of high levels of contamination.

Housing Choice Voucher Program
MaineHousing’s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance to income eligible tenants by subsidizing a portion of their monthly rents and paying it directly to their landlords.

Eviction Prevention Program
The Eviction Prevention Program is aimed at helping households that are facing an immediate risk of homelessness due to an eviction proceeding or the threat of an eviction proceeding from a landlord. ** The Eviction Prevention Program (EPP) went on a waitlist on November 18, 2024. The waitlist will close to new applications at 5:00PM local time on June 27, 2025. **

Stability Through Engagement
STEP is designed to provide short term rental assistance for 6-12 months to help individuals and families achieve housing stability. The focus is on rapidly re-housing people who are homeless and referred by a shelter in one of the ten counties where the program is offered.

General Rental Info
With financing from MaineHousing and other government sources, affordable apartments have been developed across the State. In most cases, the rents for these apartments are pre-set. In some cases, the tenant pays a portion of their income towards rent.
- Subsidized Apartment Listings - These listings include contact information for affordable apartments throughout Maine that were developed with government financing. To apply for these apartments, contact the property managers and request applications. Eligibility requirements and income limits vary by property.
- Other Affordable Apartments - "Mod-Rehab" apartments are private apartments that were rehabilitated with MaineHousing funds in return for the owners’ commitment to affordable rents. To apply for these affordable apartments, contact one of the Mod Rehab Program Agents.
- Local Housing Authorities - You may also want to contact your local housing authority to see if they have other public housing available.
