Policy & Research
MaineHousing offers low-interest home-repair loans and home-replacement mortgages to homeowners whose homes have been damaged or destroyed in a declared natural disaster.
You may be eligible for a home repair loan if:
You may be reimbursed for repairs already completed, provided that you can document that the repairs were necessary for health and safety reasons.
You must agree to use any insurance payment or disaster assistance received for the eligible disaster related home repairs to repay your MaineHousing home repair loan.
You may be eligible for a home replacement mortgage if:
In the case of a flood, you may not be allowed to use MaineHousing financing to rebuild your primary residence in the same location/site where the flooding occurred.
You should be prepared to provide photographs of the eligible disaster related damage and written professional estimates of home repair or replacement costs from qualified contractors.
We urge homeowners to report storm damage by calling 211. 211 may have knowledge of additional community resources.
