    MaineHousing Launches National Housing Trust Fund Program
    The National Housing Trust Fund program (HTF) is a federal resource that MaineHousing allocates in Maine. The funding is provided to developers to finance the creation of affordable rental housing within the State of Maine for extremely low income (30% or less of Area Median Income) households.

    Economic Analysis: Affordable housing development boosts economy, adds jobs
    MaineHousing's investment in the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program adds to the much needed supply of affordable housing for residents of low to moderate income levels while bringing a substantial and critical boost to the state's economy, according to an economic impact study conducted by MaineHousing in partnership with University of Southern Maine.

    Reports: Annual homeless numbers in Maine show decline; PIT unchanged
    MaineHousing analyzes homelessness two ways: through data collected over the entire year and by the annual Point in Time Survey, which is conducted on one January night. In 2016, 6,304 individuals sought a place to sleep in Maine’s emergency shelters, a total decline of 19% since 2013. Also, the 2017 PIT count was unchanged from the previous year, with 1,188 people homeless on January 27.

    MaineHousing and its partners are making progress in implementing three recommendations presented last year by the Maine Affordable Housing Working Group and enacted by the Legislature. We recently gave this update to the Joint Standing Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research, and Economic Development.

    2016 MaineHousing Accomplishments
    In 2016, MaineHousing continued to be a leader in financing affordable housing development, providing First Home Loans to first-time homebuyers and military, and serving lower-income families with their housing and heating needs. Also, we provided drought relief, weatherized homes, and helped hundreds of individuals work to achieve housing stability. Here’s a snapshot of our accomplishments!
