Home Improvement Program Details
Program Summary
MaineHousing's Home Repair Program, which consists of a Home Repair grant, Elderly Hardship grant and Septic Repair/Replacement loans, provides help to low-income homeowners who cannot afford necessary home repairs.
For eligible homeowners, the Maine Home Repair Program can assist with such things as:
Well and septic system repairs or replacements
Heating and electrical system repairs
Roof and chimney repairs
Structural repairs
Lead paint mitigation
Repair or replacement of windows and doors
Energy efficiency improvements
Repair or replacement of siding
Handicap accessibility improvements
Other health and safety repairs
Am I Eligible?
To be eligible, for a Home Repair grant or Septic Repair/Replacement loan you must own and live in the home that will be renovated or repaired. If the residence is a mobile home, it must be manufactured after 1976.
To be eligible for an Elderly Hardship grant, you must be 62 years or older, and you must live in the home that will be renovated or repaired. For an Elderly Hardship grant only, leased land is eligible for the ownership requirements.
Household income limits vary, depending on the type of assistance needed.
Home Repair grant income limits are
50% of area median income (AMI
).
Septic system repair/replacement loan,
income limits are 120% of AMI
.
