AUGUSTA – Former U.S. Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts and homelessness prevention expert Barbara Poppe will be the keynote speakers at the 2013 Maine Affordable Housing Conference on October 30 in Portland.

The Maine State Housing Authority and the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition are partnering to present this year’s event – the only statewide conference that attracts leaders in all facets of the affordable housing and homelessness prevention communities. The agenda will include discussions on the role of housing in Maine’s economy over the next year; current efforts to rapidly re-house families that are homeless; and the latest on sequestration and how it is affecting agencies’ abilities to provide housing for individuals and families today and in the near future.

The 2013 Maine Affordable Housing Conference will be Wednesday, October 30, at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. Registration now is open. Visit www.mainehousing.org to register. Early registration is $70 per person through October 10, and $85 per person after that. A continental breakfast and hot lunch are included.

The keynote speakers will inspire attendees. Former U.S. Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts spent his Congressional career advocating for the construction and preservation of affordable rental housing for low-income and working people as well as being an advocate for the poor and underprivileged. In addition, Barbara Poppe, executive director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, has more than 25 years of experience working to find solutions to prevent homelessness and develop programs to rapidly re-house families.

Property owners and managers, developers, engineers, architects, bankers and financiers, real estate agents, social service agencies, homeless shelter providers, and state government departments are encouraged to attend. Event sponsorships are available. For more information, visit www.mainehousing.org or call (207) 624-5734.
