 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides money to help low-income homeowners and renters with home heating costs. It also provides emergency fuel and funds home weatherization, and it serves as a gateway to other programs and services that require LIHEAP eligibility. MaineHousing offers this program to consumers through Community Action Program agencies.
 Low Income Assistance Program
Low Income Assistance Plans (LIAP) offered by electric utilities help low-income homeowners and renters with electricity costs. MaineHousing, through Community Action Program agencies, accepts customer applications for LIAP as part of the LIHEAP application process. If a customer appears to be eligible, their electric utility is notified.
 Weatherization
MaineHousing’s Weatherization Program and Central Heating Improvement Program (CHIP) provide grants to low-income homeowners and renters to improve home energy performance. MaineHousing offers these programs to consumers through Community Action Program agencies, who screen people for eligibility as part of the LIHEAP application process.
 Appliance Replacement Program
The Appliance Replacement Program helps low-income people to reduce their energy costs by replacing older home appliances that are inefficient and expensive to operate. MaineHousing offers this program to consumers through Community Action Program agencies, who screen people for eligibility as part of the LIHEAP application process.
 Multifamily Home Energy Loan Program
This program provides low interest loans for multifamily housing improvements that increase energy efficiency and conservation of resources, thereby preserving the quality of housing for Maine residents and reducing property operating expenses. Property owners who make improvements identified in an energy audit may reduce energy consumption by 15% to 20% annually.
